My Car
I am currently using a Citroen C3 1.6 Diesel. My cars are factory fitted with dual controls... there is nothing you can do that I cannot stop you from doing. This is for your safety and that of other road users.
Question?
Can I use my own car to take the test ?
Yes you can providing it meets certain criteria. It must have front passenger headrests and seatbelts ( all modern cars are OK ). What you must make sure of is that you inform your insurance company that you intend to take your test in the car, some insurers will not allow this and some charge an additional premium.
Be very careful if using a hire car. Very few companies will cover you to take a test in it and examiners will always ask for proof of insurance.
My advice is to take the test in the car that you are most familiar with driving, be it mine or yours. When first starting I insist that you use my car since I have dual controls fitted. As you become more proficient we can take lessons in your car.
Question?
If I have my own car when can I start to go out with other qualified drivers ?
This is always difficult, I know that you want to drive as much as possible as soon as possible, but remember, although they may be very good drivers they are not trained instructors, and they do not have the benefit of dual controls to stop you if things go wrong. If you have your own car I will tell you when I think its safe for you to go out with parents or other qualified drivers.
If you have your own car do not fix " L " plates in the windows, this obscures your view front and rear and will not be accepted by an examiner for test. Fit them front and rear.
